MANILA, Philippines – Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids season 2 contender Krystal Brimner may only be 11 years old, but she managed to give a moving performance of Miley Cyrus’ heartbreak song, “Wrecking Ball,” on the show’s first episode on Saturday, May 5. The young singer and actress was hardly recognizable when she emerged onstage with her hair styled in Miley’s Bangerz-era platinum blonde undercut.

She then launched into the song, giving it her own spin, but staying true to its emotional spirit.

Her performance floored the judges. Sharon Cuneta praised her ability to use her imagination, and said that her interpretation of the song was brilliant.

“Sobrang galing ng interpretasyon mo dito (your interpretation of this was great),” Sharon said, adding that it was “a lovely performance.”

Gary Valenciano said Krystal exceeded his expectations – which were already high to begin with, given her theater background.

“Your father said kanina that he hopes you that you will become a big star. Krystal, that’s what you’re destined for. For big things, here, and everywhere around the world,” Gary said.

Ogie was left whipping out hip slang to describe her performance.

“You’re a star. Ika nga ng mga millennial (as millennials say), that performance was so lit,” Ogie said. “That was really amazing. It was on point. You were amazing. You were beautiful. The emotion was there. Ang galing (You were great).”

At a young age, Krystal is already a seasoned singer and actress She played the title role in the Manila revival of Annie in 2016, and John Lloyd Cruz’s daughter in Honor Thy Father in 2015.

She is among the 8 contestants of Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids season 2, which airs on ABS-CBN. The second round of performances for the show’s first week airs on Sunday, May 6. – Rappler.com
