'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' features 'unapologetic... fierce' women. Are you ready to handle this?

MANILA, Philippines – Unapologetic. Fierce.

It’s time to cast away your notions of a Sabrina that’s light, easy and carefree to make way for a young witch who is must pick between two worlds – on top of dealing with the usual drama of teenage life.

It’s this decidedly darker and more complex character who will be in the spotlight once Chilling Adventures of Sabrina begins streaming on Netflix on October 26.

On her 16th birthday, half-human and half-witch Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) must pick between the mortal world and a world of the occult and witchcraft. Easy choice? While Sabrina’s aunts seem to think so, the teenager begs to differ.

“She’s torn between the two worlds that she loves and what path is she going to go create,” said Miranda Otto, who plays Sabrina’s aunt Zelda Spellman, in a featurette release by Netflix.

“Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit,” according to Netflix.

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote script for the series, which exists in the same universe as the modern take on the popular Archie comics.

Cast members include Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Abigail Cowen, Lachlan Watson and Bronson Pinchot. – Rappler.com
