Filipino shadow artist goes straight to semis on ‘Asia’s Got Talent’

MANILA, Philippines – Shadow Ace, a shadow artist from the Philippines, earned the coveted golden buzzer on Asia’s Got Talent on February 21.

Shadow Ace, whose real name is Philip Galit, wowed the judges with a unique shadow play performance using only his hands.

It was a talent he honed from a childhood where he experienced constant blackouts.

“We used to have constant blackouts in our neighborhood so I entertained myself using candlelight on the wall when I was a little kid,” he said, before launching into his performance.

After the performance, judges David Foster, Anggun, and Jay Park did not spare the praise.

“It’s a silly little thing I guess to play with your hands and make figures like that, but I tell you, I forgot they were hands,” David commented.

“I’m so glad you’re on this show, really. I love that performance,” Anggun added.

“We’ve seen some shadow shows and this by far was the best one,” Jay said.

After the judges gave their feedback, hosts Alan Wong and Justin Bratton came out to press the golden buzzer for Shadow Ace.

The golden buzzer allows a contestant to advance straight to the semifinals. Each judge and the hosts together get to use the golden buzzer just once throughout the season.

Before joining Asia’s Got Talent, Shadow Ace was a semifinalist on Pilipinas Got Talent in 2016. – Rappler.com
