Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke’s reaction to that Iron Throne scene will break your hearts too
Yup, we mean * that * scene. [SPOILERS FOLLOW]

MANILA, Philippines – Game of Thrones fans – both casual and hardcore – have been spending the past week coming to terms with the events in the series finale.

So just imagine how difficult it must have been for stars Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke to process the ending for their characters, whom they’ve played for over a decade.

** SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES FINALE FOLLOW **

In the documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, we get a glimpse into the emotional roller coaster that was the cast’s table-read of the series finale. A table-read is when actors – and the showrunners and producers, in this case – come together to read through their lines for a movie or television show.

Emilia seems to have already known how the finale would pan out but Kit – in true Jon “knows nothing” Snow fashion – doesn’t.

Kit turns emotional as the showrunners read through the sequences of their pivotal scene, which happens in the middle of the final episode.

In it, Jon (Kit Harington) arrives at the throne room in what now-destroyed Red Keep, just as Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) finally sees the Iron Throne in person for the first time. Jon tries, in vain, to make Dany realize the destruction she’s creating and leaving behind. But Dany, whose character turned villain in the last few episodes of the show, is resolute and believes that she’s doing things for the good – even if it means killing innocent people.

Just as Jon professes his loyalty to Dany and seals it with a passionate kiss, he stabs her.

Kit, in real life, gasps and has to cover his mouth and later buries his face in his hands. Emilia, meanwhile, sinks into her own chair.

Everyone in the room lets out an audible gasp as the showrunners read: “We see Jon with his hands still on the hilt of the dagger he just lodged in Dany’s heart.”

There are other emotional moments in the table-read. As Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa Stark) recalled, the whole room erupts into cheers as showrunners read out the scene in which Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) kills the Night King.

Conleth Hill (Lord Varys) looks shaken as Emilia reads out Dany’s death sentence to Varys, her Master of Whisperers.

The Last Watch, by acclaimed British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, was given unprecedented access to the filming of the final season of the hit HBO TV show. It began airing on Monday, May 27 at 9 am in Asia on HBO and HBO Go. It will air again for an encore telecast at 10 pm on HBO.

The documentary is set for another encore telecast on Tuesday, 28 May at 10 pm on HBO SIGNATURE. – Rappler.com
