Nick Jonas joins ‘The Voice’ as coach

MANILA, Philippines – Singer-songwriter Nick Jonas will be one of the coaches at the NBC singing competition The Voice for its upcoming 18th season.

The Jonas brother announced the news on Tuesday, October 7. He will be replacing veteran coach Adam Levine who is leaving the show after 16 seasons, taking his first red seat alongside returning coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Blake Shelton.

“I’m so excited to be a part of The Voice family,” Nick said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, according to a Deadline report.

“It’s such an awesome group of individuals, and I can’t wait to help these artists really build and hone in to find their unique voices.”

“As a member of one of the hottest pop groups, Nick’s success in navigating all aspects of the music industry is exceptional,” said Meredith Ahr, president of Alternative and Reality Group at NBC Entertainment in a statement.

“We were so impressed by his innate musicality, technical aptitude and passion that he brought to Songland earlier this year and know he will be an incredible fit as a coach on The Voice.”

Prior to becoming a coach, Nick was already taken in as a guest mentor for Christina Aguilera’s team for season 8. Brother Joe Jonas also became a coach for Australia’s The Voice, and a mentor for the U.S. version under Team Adam in season 13. 

The 27-year-old musician debuted as part of the Jonas Brothers band in 2005 with siblings Kevin and Joe. After the trio’s temporary disbandment in 2013, Nick released his first commerically-successful, self-titled album. He released Last Year Was Complicated in 2016. 

Aside from music, Nick also delves into acting, appearing in TV series Scream Queens in 2015, Kingdom from 2014-2017, the Sundance Film Festival entry Goat in 2016, and in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017. – Rappler.com
