MANILA, Philippines – Actress Teresita Ssen "WinWyn" Marquez has her loved ones' support as she tries to win another crown two years after competing in Binibining Pilipinas. WinWyn is one of the 35 contestants in the Miss World Philippines 2017 pageant.
At Binibining Pilipinas 2015, WinWyn placed in the Top 15, while Pia Wurtzbach won the Miss Universe Philippines title, and later, the international pageant in Las Vegas.
In an interview with reporters at the press presentation for the candidates on Monday, August 7, WinWyn said that her father, former Parañaque mayor and actor Joey Marquez, was initially reluctant for her to join again. But after explaining to him what the contest was, he gave her his blessing.
"To be honest, I'm so happy. It's just falling into place because my dad is super supportive. When I told him, he was happy. He said go, prove them that you can do it. Prove them that you can speak, prove them that you can shine... I explained to him that it's not all about your physique, how you look like. It's about voicing out something – 'beauty with a purpose.' And I think he realized that," she said, quoting the Miss World advocacy.

Aside from Joey, her aunt, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, and her boyfriend, actor Mark Herras, are also behind her.
Wyn said that she actually consulted Melanie about joining again. The former beauty queen and actress told her to go for it.

WinWyn recalled that when she consulted her aunt, Melanie only said one thing: "Join if you want to. If your heart is set to win, go and join."
"Alam mo naman si Tita Melanie. Sasabihin niya kung ano ang nasa isip niya... ayaw naman niya manggaling sa kanya na huwag kang sumali, mag-join ka, or something. Kung ano yung gusto mo, gawin mo. And she's always going to be there to support me."
(You know Tita Melanie. She'll say what's on her mind. She doesn't want to be the one to say don't join, or join, or something. Whatever you want, do it. And she's always going to be there to support me.)

As for Mark, Wyn credits the GMA 7 actor for pushing her to try again her luck in the pageant scene.
"Siya yung nagsabi. Kasi I was actually scared to join. I was scared of losing, scared of all things that would happen. But sabi niya, 'If you're not going to join and you're going to regret it in the long run, ikaw din ang malulungkot. Wala naman daw mawawala sa akin kung matalo, manalo. Kung ginawa ko, wala akong regret.
(He was actually the one who said to try again. Because I was actually scared to join. I was scared of losing, scared of all things that would happen. But he said, 'If you're not going to join and you're going to regret it in the long run, you'll be sad about it. He told me I wouldn't lose anything if I won or lost. If I do it, at least I have no regrets.)
"So siya palagi yung nagpu-push sa akin parang, 'Sumali ka na ng Miss World.' So parang for me, na stuck iyon sa mind ko and nilagay niya ako doon sa path na iyon, to think deeper. So I'm thankful na siya yung nagpush sa akin."
(So he was always the one who would push me like 'Join Miss World already.' So for me, that got stuck in my mind, and he really put me on that path, to think deeper. So I'm thankful that he was the one who pushed me to try again.)

A more focused WinWyn, showbiz commitments
At the press presentation, WinWyn was asked what has changed since she last joined a pageant two years ago.
"Siguro ano (I guess), it was a challenge for me to be positive. Syempre (of course) I was attacked on social media, I was attacked because of my family. I joined because I was part of a known family. Siguro (I guess), I'm much stronger. And yung (my) mindset ko talaga (really) is to win, is just to focus, and not really think about yung mga (the) criticism na hindi (that's not) constructive," she said.

With regard to her showbiz commitments, WinWyn, who recently appeared in Mulawin vs Ravena, said that she will definitely be returning to acting after the competition.
"If ever nanalo ako, syempre (I win, of course) I want to focus on my advocacy, focus on my duty, my responsibilites. And if ever tapos na yung reign ko (my reign ends)... syempre (of course) I'll go back to showbiz because that's where I really started. And also use that as a platform, kasi (because) the attention you get from the media... you can use it for something good. And ayoko naman i-let go iyon agad-agad (And I don't want to let go of that immediately). It's an opportunity for you to voice out something," she said. – Rappler.com
