MANILA, Philippines — As of Friday, August 12, at least 135 families affected by Typhoon Ineng in Batanes and Cagayan have sought refuge in evacuation centers managed by local government units (LGUs), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported.
This totals to 421 people coming from 3 villages in Batanes and 5 villages from Cagayan.
DSWD field offices in affected areas have also prepositioned relief goods to LGUs: In Region I, 29,000 family food packs were made available as stockpile, while 24,000 food packs were prepositioned in satellite warehouses in the region. In Region II, 43,990 food packs were made available in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Viscaya.
Meanwhile, Batanes received 340 sacks of National Food Authority (NFA) rice and 336 boxes of canned goods. In CAR, 6,591 food packs have been prepositioned.
DSWD disaster teams are prepared to provide assistance as needed. Volunteers are encouraged to help in the repacking of goods in the field offices. — Rappler.com
