Filipino concept artist Juni Frio is having a great week, celebrating the long-anticipated release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the huge sweep for The Last of Us 2 at The Game Awards. Along with his wife, Betina, Juni represents a trend of Filipino artists working on “AAA Games” (basically, the equivalent of blockbusters in video games).
The power couple behind Frio Concept Studio didn’t always work in the video game industry, let alone the arts. With an agriculture degree and a nursing degree between the two of them, Juni and Betina learned art and illustration over the internet and freelanced before finding work at Secret 6, a local outsourcing game development studio.
You can actually self-study and use your sheer will to get into the art industry.

From employment to entrepreneurship, Juni and Betina not only opened their own studio, they even saw growth during pandemic-stricken 2020. They are currently reviewing applications from remote artists around the Philippines, Asia, and even Europe.
In this episode, Juni paints a picture of the burgeoning art outsourcing industry in the Philippines.
