In the Philippines, the psychology landscape is relatively young. It’s only in recent times that we’ve seen an uptick in psychology professionals, especially among the youth.

Just look at JR Ilagan and Mara Yusingco, who, in their mid-20s, both became psychology professors at the Ateneo de Manila University.

However, in spite of the industry’s growth, full-time psychologists tend to juggle multiple jobs to sustain a career. As academics, aside from teaching, JR and Mara also contribute to several studies on issues ranging from the drug war to the ongoing pandemic. Outside of school, both JR and Mara are practicing clinical psychologists – at GrayMatters Psychological and InTouch Community Services, respectively.

In this episode, JR Ilagan and Mara Yusingco teach us how local psychology will be fundamental for our overall recovery from the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
