Mike Leopando never knew he’d end up in sports, or the United States for that matter. The BS Management Engineering graduate from Ateneo de Manila University initially went into banking but decided to gamble, pursuing his passion in sports and moving to the US.

After working for Adidas in New York City for 5 years, Leopando went back to school and earned his MBA at basketball-centric Duke University. He then got a job as the sole business analyst for the fast-rising Milwaukee Bucks.

After 7 years, Leopando is now the franchise’s senior director of business operations and insights, with a team of 4 other analysts.

Especially in the age of a pandemic and the NBA bubble, professional sports organizations and teams are starting to invest more in business analytics and innovations to keep fans engaged.

Now some of these teams are really looking into understanding their consumers in a more advanced way.
