This app helps you find toilets with bidets in the Philippines
Not all heroes wear capes, you guys

MANILA, Philippines – It’s an undisputable fact that when pooping, cleaning up sans water – be it through the tabo or a bidet – is simply unacceptable.

It’s also true that even in the Philippines, bidets are often hard to come by. (And let’s face it, while the tabo is a reliable classic, it’s not that convenient when you’re number two-ing in a public restroom.)

It’s a wonder that it’s taken this long for Filipinos to develop an app that helps users track down the “rate bidet.”

Enter, “San Bidet.”

“While you are exploring the Philippines, feeling the urge to poop may give you a sense of dread. Traffic congestion, along with Metro Manila’s maze-like urban sprawl, will leave you desperate to find a clean restroom and most important of all, the rare bidet. San Bidet helps you find a convenient place to answer the call of nature with a bidet in the Philippines,” reads the newly-launched app’s write-up on the Apple App Store.

Lawrence Velasco, the app’s developer, said its origins were rather personal. “I was in a situation where I was at a public place and I had the urge to poop. I knew that there was an popular Instagram page (@ShittableBa, @MeronBangBidet) and quickly scanned their profile on the best areas to poop near me. But I had a hard time since they have so many posts and I just wanted the nearest toilet with a bidet from where I am. So at that point I got the idea to make an app version of that concept,” he told Rappler.

All in all, it took Lawrence about 2-3 weeks to develop both iOS and Android versions of the app – on top of his day job as a mobile application developer.

By the looks of it, the app crowdsources the bulk of its data. Users can also send a Facebook message or a tweet to add more bidet info, report wrong bidet locations, or simply suggest improvements for the app.

The app is pretty straight-forward. It zones in on your location and, via Google Maps, shows you the nearest toilet with a bidet. Clicking on the “Find The Nearest Bidet” option leads you to the Google Maps app, which then gives you the directions to the said toilet.

“I’m planning on maintaining this as my personal project and keep it a free service for the community. I also am planning a feature update that would make it easier for users to share bidets that they know of (preferably in the app itself) as currently it is a manual process that I am doing,” he added.
