LOOK: Samantha Lo's preliminary performance at Miss Grand International 2019
MANILA, Philippines – Samantha Lo continued to make her presence felt at the Miss Grand International 2019, during the preliminary competition on Wednesday, October 23, in Caracas, Venezuela.
For the evening gown segment, she wore a gold beaded fringed gown by Ryan Ablaza Uson. For the swimsuit competition, she wore a two-piece yellow swimsuit.
During the show, Samantha showed her pasarela (runway walk) dubbed as the "Maria Clara" walk. Carlos "Caloy" Buendia Jr, the man who also trained reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray's "lava" walk, taught Samantha this walk.
Caloy explained Samantha's walk in a socialmedia post. "Miss Grand International-Philippines 2019 Samantha Ashley Lo's 'MARIA CLARA WALK' was inspired by the 'Maria Clara Suite Dances' popularized by the Bayanihan, the National Dance Company of the Philippines."
"The overall posture, slides, turns, hip mobility, strides of the feet, poses and hand movements were inspired by the dances 'Habanera de Jovencita' and 'Cariñosa.' The eye movements are inspired by the secret messages Filipinas used to send with their abanikos or fans which played a huge role in Philippine history," he added.
The preliminary competition will determine the 20 candidates who will compete on the finals on Friday, October 25. – Rappler.com
