LOOK: Resham Saeed's national costume for Miss Supranational 2019
MANILA, Philippines – Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2019 Resham Saeed presented her national costume at the Miss Supranational national costume and talent night on Friday, November 29 in Poland.
Resham showcased the B'laan tribal inspired costume designed by Jearson Demavivas. Jearson previously designed the costume of Miss Grand International Philippines 2017 Elizabeth Clenci and also collaborated with Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray for her costume and outfits during last year's competition.
"It is my pride that I am once again bringing into the International stage, and that is the Blaan tribe of Koronadal City and of the neighboring municipalities. In this ensemble, we have tweaked the traditional Blaan attire into a modern one through the incorporation of suit pants made of B'laan cloth and other glittery embellishments," said Jearson.
"Notable is the addition of a weaved cloth attached to the headdress which is almost a century-old that was made by no less than a National Artist Blaan weaver. Thanks to the City of Koronadal for helping us make this costume a reality. Truly a Philippine pride," he added.
Resham said the fabric was woven by Fu Yabing.
"This isn’t just a National Costume for a show... it’s sacred, it holds pride and it’s a marriage of craft and culture. Presenting you, the precious fabrics of the Blaan Tribe in Koronadal. The tribal fabric attached to the head piece is over a century old, and was woven by Fu Yabing. A living National treasure of the Philippines. Honoured to have the opportunity to carry it like a crown and to have it with me on this journey !!!!"
Resham is competing for the crown last won by Mutya Datul in 2013. Coronation night is on December 6. – Rappler.com
