Adulting 101: Essential oils and balms to surprise your tita friends (or yourself) with
Oilbularyos, you know what's up! Here are local places you can get essential oils, blends, and balms from (not that you need any more, but who's counting)

MANILA, Philippines – If there’s one thing I don’t regret hoarding (aside from unread book fair finds), it’s essential oils.

Oilbularyos know what’s up – we go crazy for the newest EO blends and oils, itching to get our noses nearest the newest headache-helping aroma and sniffle-saving scent. I can’t be without one (or two.. or three…) in my bag, whether I’m working at home, at the office, or en route. Would you consider me an oilaholic? I would.

Got the itches? A cough? A migraine? Foggy thoughts? Restless sleep? There’s an aromatherapy solution for that. A little rub on the temples, a deep sniff from your palms – and suddenly, oil is well. (READ: The beginner’s guide to essential oils)

This all-natural alternative is a genie in a bottle for many, so here are some local and international brands to scout and sniff out in-store and online. With these all-natural balms, oils, and blends, magic can be found right under our noses – literally. Balms away!

Zenutrients

Zenutrients

This local, family-owned brand grew from their love of virgin coconut oil. Zenutrients found coco oil to be a magical elixir for their kids’ psoriasis, rashes, and other skin and hair concerns, so understandably, they went coco-nuts for this Pinoy treasure, creating their very own wellness line.

Massage oils, soaps, shampoo, scrubs, lotions, you name it – they’re there – and of course, their own essential oil blends and balms.

Best-seller alert: Their potent, portable All Is Well Balm (P248) is a favorite of mine (no joke, you’ll catch me sniffing from this tub like a junkie at least once a day); a minty respite from my occasional dizzy spells or allergic rhinitis.

As with most balms and oils, I either rub All Is Well onto my palms, cup my hands, and inhale (this is called an “aroma dome”), apply it to my temples or nape, or use it as a chest rub for congestion. It’s great for achy muscles too, and invigorating enough to wake me up during stressful, sleepy days.

You can also opt for the All Is Well Oil Roll-On (P140), if the roll-on form is easier for you. There’s also the menthol Muscle Oil Roll-On (P140) for post-exercise sore aches, and the Ginger Oil Roll-On (P140) for both smell and body use, which is a minty but spicier variant.

For skin problems, try their multi-use Virgin Coconut Oil Balm (P218), a tub of the simple, good stuff, best for dry skin, eczema, rashes, and psoriasis.

For a milder option, there’s the Baby Balm (P248), a gentle moisturizer made for diaper rashes, sensitive, severely dry skin, and chapped lips.

Real Scents

Real Scents is a homegrown brand, founded by corporate house mommies looking to brighten their time at home with the kids.

Their fragrances products are all made from pure essential oils, free from phtalates (plasticizers) and harmful ingredients, and are curated to “uplift” one’s space with fresh scents.

Real Scents’ room and linen sprays (P249) are original formulations with different “personalities,” like their Relaxing Naturals, a calming blend of lavender, peppermint, and eucalpytus. I like to spray this around my bedroom and on my pillows before I head to dreamland.

I like converting our living room into a freshly-baked apple pie too with the homey Sugar And Spice spray, a scent you might want to eat (please don’t), made with sweet apple and spicy cinammon oils. Other sprays include the Beach Escape (a fresh, bright smell), Bamboo (clean and crisp), Bright Mornings (zesty, sweet), and the Charming Home (fruity, floral).

The sprays are also available as 10 ml fragrance oils (P179) too, and can be used for aroma diffusers, reed diffusers, burners, and warmers. If it’s pure oils you’re looking for, Real Scents’ essential oils (P199) line provide the basics for beginners: eucalpytus, peppermint, and lavender, among others.

You can check out Real Scents on Instagram! You can also visit them at The Common Room branches.

Healthy Options sells the Aura Cacia Oil Discovery Kit (P1375), a beginner’s set of 4 essential oils – lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and tea tree – plus a learning guide on how to use and mix them.

They also sell them in singles, like the Aura Cacia Rosemary (P1275) of South African origin, which is a less intense, softer, herby scent, best for hair and skincare concerns. Its clarifying scent helps with mental clarity and focus, too.

We heard tea tree oil is good for blemishes too, so grab a Desert Tea Tree Oil Eco Harvest (P595), the natural anti-septic that helps reduce inflammation and redness.

Luna Maia

You can’t miss Luna Maia’s items on the shelf – these slim rollers are packaged in gold-bronze beauty. But it’s what’s inside that counts, right? Luna Maia’s curated oil blends are just as pleasant.

Luna Maia was built by a woman who sought purpose during a mid-life crisis. She found renewed meaning in life through the healing properties of essential oils – hence, Luna Maia was found.

Her all-natural Essential Roller Blends (P399-10ml) serve different purposes, like the Headache Helper,  Sleep Tight, and a personal fave: the Mood Boost, a zesty, energizing, perk-me-up made with sweet almond oil.

Feeling congested? Luna Maia has a Breathe Easy Balm (P359), a mild emollient made from 100% beeswax, virgin coco oil, and pure EOs. Rub on your chest or under your nose! Other balm types include Skin Relief and Pain Away.

How about blends for men? Luna Maia knows the lack thereof, and has curated a pocket-friendly tin pack of two men-friendly 5ml blends: the Hangover Relief and Muscle Pain Relief for P599.

And if you’re heading out of town, don’t let the non-bed bugs bite! Luna Maia has all-natural solutions to those pests: the safe-on-skin Bug Bite Spray 50 ml (P329), which can also double as a scented room spray, and the Bug Bite Oil 10 ml (P399) for itchy mosquito bites.

You can get Luna Maia’s repellant power and sweet-smelling scent via the 100% beeswax Aromatherapy Candle (P299) too, made with citronella and peppermint.

You can check out the rest of Luna Maia online, at Common Room branches, and Frankies and Friends.

Rinse and Repeat

Rinse and Repeat owes itself to the owner’s love for the sun, surf, and her two little kittens, Kitten and Mitten. Just take a look at the adorable packaging – how can you resist those cute cat doodles? Plus, her advocacy for practical, reusable, low-waste, and easy-to-use items are a plus!

Rinse and Repeat’s Essential Oil Mood Blends 10ml (P280) aren’t hard to fall for either – these handy “mood enhancers” are here to give you what you need: whehter it’s Liquid Sunshine, Anger Management, Brain Boost, a Hug in a Bottle, or the flowery, dreamy Sleep blend, made with lavender and ylang-lang oils.

Going plastic-free, too? Rinse and Repeat offers SLS-free shampoo bars, conditioner bars, and reusable cotton rounds, too. Take a look at their other items on Instagram!

Their essential oils go for P129 (1ml), P189 (5ml), and P309 (10ml), and cater to a variety of occasions, like the calming Good Night blend (lavender and frankincense), energizing Good Morning (lemon and peppermint) blend, the Tummy Tamer (uses YL’s Digize oil), the Headache Away (lavender, peppermint, and frankincense), Pain Relief (uses YL’s minty Panaway and strong Valor oil), and the Relax Lang (lemon, Stress Away, and Valor).

Pili Ani

Pili Ani make use of organic, local pili and elemi oil, which is good news – applying that EO blend on your skin is pretty much hitting both the wellness and beauty birds with one stone!

Pili Ani features 5 main EO blends. If you can’t decide on which one, why not get all? The Essential Oil Blend Travel Kit (P1350) carries all 5 in one convenient pack – Sweet Dreams, Bug Me Not, Stress Away, Breathe Easy, and Rise and Shine.

You can also get it individually at 6 ml for P265 and 10 ml for P375. One sniff and you’ll love the potency of Pili’s blends. Take the Stress Away for example – its rejuvenating mix of eucalyptus, ginger, cypress, juniperberry, and menthol will wake both your tired brain and achy muscles up.

Even getting out of bed is made slightly more bearable with the Rise and Shine blend, an invigorating scent similar to stepping into a fresh garden, thanks to its wintergreen, eucalyptus, orange peel, lemon, and levender oils.

Heading to bed? Rub some Sweet Dreams oil on your nape and temples and inhale a gentle, floral blend of lavender, bergamot, basil, and ylang-ylang before your head hits the pillow.
