MANILA, Philippines – Wicked fans know that the best thing about the award-winning musical is its earnest and passionate defense of friendship, loyalty, and individuality. And 12 (almost 13) years after the musical first made its theater debut, dazzling audiences of all ages, original cast members Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth reunited to perform iconic song “For Good”
“Sang with my girl Kristin Chenoweth for the first time in 12 years to honor WICKED The Musical producer David Stone at the Second Stage Theatre Gala. Very emotional. Hope you guys like!,” captioned Idina on Facebook.
The pair sang this for their Out of Oz session. The “Out of Oz: Wicked Studio Sessions” are a series of performances that feature former and current Wicked performers singing re-imagined songs from the play.
“For Good,” a reflection on the friendship of Elphaba (played by Idina) and Glinda (played by Kristin), is a stirring tune that soars as the characters realize their impact on each other’s lives, even as both face different destinies.
Idina and Kristin’s performance is the 4th in the series, but songs like “Defying Gravity” and “I’m Not That Girl” have been sung by other actors in the past.
Idina left the show in 2005, and Kristin, in 2004.
Wicked follows the friendship of Elphaba, a misfit who is often left out or overlooked because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular and bubbly schoolmate.
Self-possessed and whip-smart, Elphaba comes into her own as she embraces and discovers her own inner strength and the courage to stand up against evil. Through a sumptuous visual feast and the musical’s iconic songs, audiences watch a story of true love and friendship unfold – a curious alternative to the Wizard of Oz story we all know so well.
Fans will soon be able to catch Wicked in Manila in early 2017. – Rappler.com
