Here's a look at Harry, Ginny, and their middle child, Albus Severus, in full costume

MANILA, Philippines – It’s been a while since we’ve seen the wondrous wizarding world of Harry Potter. So it came as really thrilling news when JK Rowling herself announced the staging of a play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which occurs 19 years after the events of The Deathly Hallows.

The play will premiere at the Palace Theater in London’s West End in July; however, previews will start from June 7.

The Cursed Child centers on Albus Severus, the second of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley’s children. Albus Severus, named after two Hogwarts headmasters, has two siblings: James Sirius and Lily Luna. (READ: ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ play – new details revealed)

Sam Clemmett takes on the role of Albus Severus

Here, although he is wearing Hogwarts robes, there is no clue as to which house the Sorting Hat has placed him in. In the epilogue of The Deathly Hallows, he expressed the same fear as his father of being placed in Slytherin.

Jamie Parker, meanwhile, plays the grown up version of his father, Harry Potter – who Pottermore characterized as “an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.”

Parker told Pottermore about donning Harry’s “iconic” lighting-shaped scar and spectacles: “These are stories that people have lived with for their whole lives, they’ve grown up with and now they’re adults rejoining the tale, picking it up where they left off and I’m one of them.”

“In a sense you don’t need more than the scar and the glasses, you kind of go, ‘there it is’ and I don’t really know how to put it into words, it’s just immeasurably exciting and I can’t wait to show it to people.”

JK Rowling herself also commended Parker’s turn as the Boy Who Lived: “He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right.”

Poppy Miller plays Albus Severus’ mother, Ginny, still with the bright red hair that the Weasleys are known for.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, written by playwright Jack Thorne, is based on a story by him, Rowling, and director John Tiffany.

The official synopsis from Pottermore reads: “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

The play is one production to be presented in two parts, “intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings,” according to the website. – Rappler.com
