Users can now view Instagram photos on the web via new profile pages.

MANILA, Philippines – For the longest time, the Instagram party has been exclusive to iOS and Android users. While there has always been an option to view individual photos on the Internet via links that become public if posts are shared on Twitter – for the most part it hasn’t been a very web friendly experience.

All that will change this week as the mobile photo-sharing service begins rolling out new profile pages starting Tuesday, November 6 (November 5 in the US). Profile pages mean Instagram users will be able to share their portfolios online and make it possible for users to discover them on the web. While on your profile pages, users will also be able to follow you and/or comment on your photos.

While this is a welcome development, by no means does this transition to the web mean that users can now get the entire Instagram experience on a web browser. Users still can’t upload photos from a computer or change their profile photo. Aside from following, commenting, and liking the most else you can do is edit your profile.

Prior to the roll out of the “official” web version of Instagram, 3rd party sites like web.stagram.com and statigr.am offered the same functionality via the Instagram API. Rappler staffers also use the Chrome extension Instagram for Chrome which gives users of the Chrome browser the same functionality.

To find out if this feature has been rolled out for your profile, navigate to instagram.com/your username here. If you’re in luck, you’ll see your profile all setup, if not wait a week, Instagram says the rollout should be finished by next week.
