MANILA, Philippines – Call it a “pseudo-YouTube.”

If you’ve ever wanted to make your own web video mash-ups or make simple edits to your existing web videos without digging out your offline software, you now have a new web-based option available.

Mozilla has released Popcorn Maker 1.0, a new web-based video editing suite that allows you to edit or make your own personal additions onto existing web-based video content.

As Wired’s Scott Gilbertson explains, the service “makes it easy to pull all kinds of outside web content into your videos. For example, add photo overlays, maps, links, in-video pop-ups of Wikipedia entries, Twitter widgets with relevant hashtag searches and so on.”

The service allows you to also share your completed works through an embed code or link. You can then paste it on the web for others to see.

Popcorn Maker also has a series of featured projects that act as tutorials for the web service.

If you have prior experience with editing videos, it shouldn’t be too much of a stretch, but newcomers will want to study a bit, even if discovering new tricks is fun in itself. – Rappler.com
