Cellphone with built-in projector introduced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

MANILA, Philippines – Nope that’s not flash light on top of that smartphone! Guess again. Did you ever in your wildest thoughts think it would be a projector? Crazy I know, but its true. This phone, dear tech enthusiasts, is the new Samsung Galaxy Beam, unveiled at Mobile World Congress happening in Barcelona from February 27 to March 1, 2012.

If you look from any other another angle, it looks pretty much like any of Samsung’s other smartphones, well, because it is. The Galaxy Beam is an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) quad band GSM smartphone, with a WVGA 4-inch display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of onboard storage and a 5MP camera all in a 12.5mm thick frame. Pretty standard specs aside from its projector.

The projector is 15 lumens and can project images up to 50 feet wide. You can project images, videos, and other digital media onto walls or ceilings – but initials hands on reviews say you’ll need to really dim the lights for it to work properly.

I still remember the time when cellphones could do only one thing, make calls, then manufacturers started build in additional functionality, first came FM radios, then cameras, then computers. What else would you like built into your next smartphone? – Rappler.com
