Spice up your kitchen design!

MANILA, Philippines – We all know kitchens have to be neat (you dont want to go mistaking your sugar for salt, for instance!) but that doesnt mean they also have to be boring.

Here’s one way you can tidy up your kitchen while giving it some personality: make a magnetic chalkboard wall!

The idea came from the industrial kitchen booth at the 2017 graduating batch exhibit of the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID).

Inspired by restaurateur Erwan Heussaff, the students designed a spacious kitchen whose understated grey walls and gold accents served to highlight the chalkboard wall, which was the booth’s centerpiece.

For the wall, the students simply took a metal flat sheet, sandpapered it, and covered it in chalkboard paint. They then mounted the painted flat sheet to run from ceiling to floor, emphasizing the kitchen’s height and framed the sheet with a wood border to create a clean and modern look.

As a result, you have a chalkboard where you can write notes and recipes, as well as a magnetic wall where you can mount storage pieces, such as these spice containers. You could also attach heavy duty magnets to small boxes an attach them to the wall, creating instant shelving.

With such a versatile piece, the possibilities are endless! – Rappler.com
