Miss Tourism International Rizzini Gomez to dance in Sinulog
CEBU CITY, Philippines - Former Sinulog Festival Queen and reigning 2012 Miss Tourism International Rizzini Alexis Gomez is slated to perform at this year’s Grand Sinulog Finale on January 20.
Sinulog Foundation Inc. executive director Ricky Ballosteros shared the news with Rappler.
He said that Gomez, considered a "pride of Cebu," embodies the ideals of a "queen" that every Filipino should emulate and be proud of.
“[Gomez] would represent the Sinulog Festival and the Aliwan Festival before she won the crown. We are very proud of her!” Ballosteros said.
Gomez won the 2012 Miss Tourism International crown on New Year's Eve in Malaysia. She reportedly amazed judges with her answer.
“I told them, 'One important festival in the Philippines is the Sinulog Festival. It's one of our grandest and most colorful festivals',” she told Rappler.
"'[The Sinulog represents] the undying devotion of the Filipinos to the Señor Sto. Niño. It's a symbol of our culture and heritage, our unity as [a people].”
Gomez will lead dancers at the Sinulog finale as Queen Juana. The event will be held at the Cebu City Sports Complex and will be televised nationwide.
Queen Juana or Hara Amihan is the wife of Raja Humabod, an important part of the Sinulog tradition. It was Juana who received the miraculous image of the Child Jesus from Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. - Rappler
