Horrors of the ‘drug war’ portrayed in ‘Ang Ungo sa Kahayag ug Kangitngit’

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Artists are coming together once again to speak up against the horrors of the current administration’s campaign against illegal drugs in an exhibit called Ang Ungo sa Kahayag ug Kangitngit (Ang Aswang sa Liwanag at Dilim / Monsters, Day & Night).

The exhibit will include a performance from rappers BLKD and Calix, who are part of Sandata, a collective of artists and researchers who are working to raise awareness about the effects of the drug war.

The exhibit will also feature photographs by Ezra Acayan, Basilio Sepe, and Kimberly Dela Cruz – photojournalists who have been called the “nightcrawlers of Manila” for their coverage of the drug war.

Work by visual artists like Leeroy New, Malayo Pa Ang Umaga, and Luigi Almunena, Jonathan Santos, and Es Em Tario of the Ugatlahi Artist Collective will also be shown, along with pieces by many other artists.

Ang Ungo sa Kahayag ug Kangitngit will be held at 6pm on August 9 at Dulo MNL in Poblacion, Makati. It was originally scheduled for July 19.
