MANILA, Philippines – The first “Manila Speed Show – The Lotus F1 Team Philippine Road Show” took place last May 3 to 5 at the Manila Hotel, SM Mall of Asia, and Quirino Grandstand. The goal of the event was to introduce Formula One racing, the Lotus Formula 1 Team, the Lotus F1 race cars, and Filipino-Swiss driving sensation Marlon Stockinger to the Filipino audience.

On May 3, a lunchtime presscon and evening gala were held at the Manila Hotel. On May 4 and 5, Formula 1 cars burned rubber around SM Mall of Asia’s F1 Village and the Quirino Grandstand for two days of games and opportunities for the press and fans to rub elbows with celebrities, VIPs, and motorsport enthusiasts.

On the morning of May 4, a short program took place at Kilometer Zero near Rizal Park wherein a marker was unveiled and Stockinger drove his F1 car for the first time in Manila, marking the official start of the event.

Lotus F1 Team members who were in the country for the event were chief operations officer Patrick Louis, principal Eric Boullier, and current GP2 series champion Davide Valsecchi.

Stockinger is set to return to Europe after the event to prepare for a race in Monaco at the end of May. He brings with him hope that motorsport — as well as he — has now gained more support from the Philippines through the recently-concluded event.

“Manila Speed Show – The Lotus F1 Team Philippine Road Show” was organized in part by the City of Manila and Globe Tattoo.
