Tone down your daily makeup routine for a more relaxed weekend look

LAZY WEEKENDS. Give your skin a breather while still looking your best.

MANILA, Philippines – Admit it, your face needs a breather. From Monday to Friday you’re decked out in several layers of makeup that stop your pores from actually seeing daylight.

But most of us are not blessed with perfect skin. Every now and then, stress or lack of sleep might make skin look sallow, or a gigantic, oozy pimple on your nose might make you think twice about going out.

There’s something to be said about how just a little makeup can make you feel more polished and better prepared to face the day. But since you’ll be relaxing on the weekends, you should relax your beauty routine, too.

Don’t fret. All you need to do is skip a few steps in your daily routine and swap some of the products you’re using for lighter alternatives.

Here’s how:

1. Continue to cleanse and moisturize

It’s almost impossible to pull off a good look with an unwashed or dry face. Moisturizing also helps your makeup set nicely and prevents it from damaging your skin. There are also a number of moisturizing sunscreens available in the market which will not only keep your skin hydrated, but also protect you from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

If you were out late on Friday night, make the extra effort to take off your makeup before you plop on your bed, no matter how late it is.

2. Ditch the foundation

For the weekends, go for tinted moisturizer or BB cream. They offer light to medium coverage and won’t feel heavy on your skin. Use a concealer as spot treatment – only for your most obvious blemishes.

3. A natural, rosy glow

Instead of a heavier powder blush, go for a product that will give you naturally rosy cheeks, like a lip-and-cheek tint. It’s easy to blend, and won’t take up a lot of space in your bag.

4. For brighter eyes

Go for a subtle eyeshadow in a nude or fleshy-pink tone. Using a soft brush, apply it from your lashes to all over your lid. Make sure you leave the edges soft by blending well; a hard line on the edge doesn’t look natural at all. If done properly, this should open up your peepers and make you look more awake without the help of eyeliner.

5. Soft lips

Moisturize your lips with balm. For a little color, tinted balms will do the trick. You might also opt out of lipstick for the whole weekend.

Remember, the goal is to let your skin relax without having to leave the house too bare-faced.

And as a bonus, don’t forget to smile. After all, Marilyn Monroe once said your smile is the best makeup you can wear.
