[Mother’s Day] Mothers and sacrifice

MANILA, Philippines – I consider my mom my greatest mentor and best teacher. She never fails to teach me life’s greatest lessons. I will always be thankful and grateful for all the sacrifices she has made for our family in order for us to have a good life.

I remember one of her birthdays when I was in high school, when we had buko pie for snacks and roasted chicken for dinner because Mom didn’t have any money. I wanted to cry because I felt sorry for my mom. We should have had a special celebration, but instead we had her sacrifice.

I salute my mom for being a Superwoman. She was a mom to us 3 kids who only had a year between us, but she handled everything with grace.

In early 2001, my mom underwent surgery due to myoma that eventually led to hysterectomy. That was perhaps the hardest and most painful time for the whole family. I am the eldest child so I had to take care of everything while my mom recovered from the surgery. At 11, I learned to manage all the household chores.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without my mom’s love and hard work for us. I wouldn’t have achieved all my dreams without her encouragement and support.

Thank you, Mom, for giving us the best education. I know it was tough for you to send all 3 of your kids to college at the same time, but you never complained.

I love you, Mom!
