MANILA, Philippines – Depending on how you look at it, the first Japan-sourced all-new Civics released last February merely served to whet our appetite, or finally sate a craving for the much-delayed model of the automaker’s flagship brand.

Now, the lone 2.0 EXI variant gets company with the full launch mid-July of the entire range of Civics — this time sourced from the now-online Thailand factory that was damaged by the massive Bangkok flooding that hit late last year.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc., local distributor of the famous Japanese auto brand, rightfully says in a release that “availability of the full variant line-up will further strengthen our position in the market by providing buyers with a wider range of price and feature options.”

Bannered by its famous i-VTEC engine that promises power with fuel efficiency, the Civic now comes in 5 variants: 4 featuring its 1.8-liter power plant, and a sole 2.0 model.

All the models boast Honda’s new toys: the Eco Assist System and the Intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID).

Fuel misers can engage the ECON mode (the jolly green button is to the left of the steering wheel), which controls the engine, drive-by-wire transmission and air-conditioner for heightened fuel efficiency performance.

A DIY option is also available, wherein the driver can be guided into more conscientious driving via an “Eco coaching ambient meter” fringing the digital speedometer. It turns green to reward good accelerator habits, and blue when you’re gunning it. So ease up on the pedal, friend.

Honda catches up with the competition via a tasty 5-inch color LCD screen it calls the i-MID, which provides instant information on a variety of concerns such as fuel consumption. There’s a range of welcome customization available, too. However, only the Japanese EXI model features the extremely useful backup camera.

Regardless of variant, SRS airbags are available for the driver and front passenger, as well as other safety features that are rightfully standard fare such as ABS and EBS (electronic brakeforce distribution).

HCPI declares that test drive units are available at all 28 Honda dealerships nationwide. – Rappler.com
