JK Rowling reveals upcoming ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’
Rowling calls this the 'untold part of Harry's story'

MANILA, Philippines – It’s impossible not to miss the Harry Potter series, and devoted fans around the world continue to visit the magical world through the books, movies, and theme parks built around the story of the boy wizard who defeats the dark lord, Voldemort.

And now, she’s announced a new project also in the Potter universe, a play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We’ll let Rowling tell you in her own words, via her statement on Twitter.

“Today is a very special day for two reasons. Firstly, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published in the UK 18 years ago!,” she tweeted.

“I’m also very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be opening in London next year.

“It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself.

“I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans. However, I can say that it is not a prequel!”

She went on to discuss the medium in her lengthy series of Tweets.

“To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question – why isn’t #CursedChild a new novel? – I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.

“I’ve had countless offers to extend Harry’s story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team!

“It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry’s story.”

There are very few other details yet – we’ll keep you posted as they come in. Though this is the first time we’re hearing about Cursed Child, Rowling previously spoke about a stage project based on Potter in 2013.

For now, Potter fans, it’s time to celebrate! – Rappler.com
