WATCH: Rachelle Ann Go sings ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from ‘Les Miserables’

MANILA, Philippines – Since Les Misérables started its Manila run, it has reportedly received a standing ovation each night, as the cast members tell us at a round table interview after a special media call. (Sneak peek: Rachelle Ann Go sings as Fantine, see the amazing ‘Les Miserables’ cast)

It’s certainly well-deserved, as we could see in each of the 3 songs that they previewed for the press on a morning just a day before the gala night: “I Dreamed a Dream” and “One Day More” from Act I, and “Bring Him Home” from Act II. (WATCH: ‘Les Miserables’ cast performs ‘One Day More,’ finale at rehearsal)

In “I Dreamed a Dream,” Rachelle Ann Go shines as the tragic and ill-fated Fantine, taking some time off her run on West End to show Manila her riveting take on the character. (READ: 8 reasons to watch ‘Les Miserables’ in Manila)

Rachelle shows her countrymen her own take on the role, singing: “I dreamed a dream in time gone by / When hope was high / And life worth living.”

The spotlight is cast on her – all by her lonesome on the stage – yet she commands even as she sings about a faint hope: “I had a dream my life would be / So different from this hell I’m living.”

She pines for someone who abandoned her, her hands striking her chest, expressing her pain. “He slept a summer by my side / He filled my days with endless wonder / He took my childhood in his stride / But he was gone when autumn came,” she sings.
