JK Rowling confirms end of ‘Harry Potter’: ‘Harry is done now’
JK Rowling says that in 'Cursed Child,' Harry Potter 'goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we're done.'

MANILA, Philippines – JK Rowling’s Harry Potter stories – in books, movies, and more – have captivated fans for many years. But with the release of the Cursed Child play and book, Potterheads’ journey with Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, is done.

The bestselling author told the press – as quoted by the Radio Times at the Palace Theatre in London where the play premiered, that Harry “goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done.”

“This is the next generation, you know. So, I’m thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.”

Billed as the eighth Harry Potter story, Cursed Child follows the story of the boy wizard – 19 years after the fall of Voldemort – who has turned into an overworked Ministry of Magic bureaucrat.

More importantly, it’s also about the next generation of Harry’s world, as it focuses on one of his sons, Albus Severus, who is burdened by his father’s legacy. (READ: Harry Potter, now a dad, makes stage debut in London)

About the play, created by Jack Thorne, JK Rowling said, “It chimed perfectly with the material I had about the next generation and I could see it would work perfectly. So I never wanted to write another novel, but this will give the fans something special.”

The two-part Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play officially started its run on July 30, Saturday (July 31 in Manila) after a series of preview shows which commenced last June 7. (LOOK: Stars celebrate return of ‘Harry Potter’ in ‘Cursed Child’ play, book)
