FULL LIST: Winners, Palanca Awards 2017
51 writers were awarded this year, with 23 of them being first-timers

MANILA, Philippines – Another batch of writers joined the ranks of literary luminaries as the 67th Palanca Awards held its awarding ceremonies in Makati on September 1.

51 writers were awarded this year, with 23 of them being first-time awardees. There were also 4 writers who each took home prizes in two separate categories.

The bi-annual Novel and Nobela categories were open this year, bringing the total number of categories to 22. This year’s judges included some of Philippine literature’s best minds, such as J. Neil Garcia, Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, Jun Cruz Reyes, Marjorie Evasco, and Vim Nadera.

This year’s speaker and guest of honor was writer and professor Jose “Butch” Dalisay, himself a 16-time Palanca awardee and Hall of Famer. Dalisay was given the Gawad Dangal ng Lahi award for his contributions to the literary scene, including books of his stories, plays, and essays, screenplays, and biographies.

The Palanca Awards was named after businessman and philanthropist Carlos Palanca, and is sought after by both seasoned and emerging Filipino writers.
