Ballet Philippines stages ‘La Revolucion Filipina’
The show returns to the stage to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Apolinario Mabini

MANILA, Philippines – La Revolucion Filipina, which prominently features Apolinario Mabini, will once again be staged at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) from July 25-27.

The production is in celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mabini.

A lawyer, diplomat, and statesman, Apolinario Mabini was the chief adviser of President Emilio Aguinaldo during the Philippine Revolution.

He is also known as “The Sublime Paralytic” and “The Brains of the Revolution.”

In a press release, Dennis Marasigan, who wrote the libretto, said that choreographer Agnes Locsin wanted the ballet production to look back at how “the Filipino nation came to be.”

The production will include historic scenes such as the Declaration of Independence by Emilio Aguinaldo, and how the Philippine flag was made.

Marasigan also said that the biographies given to him came in handy, while writing libretto.

“There was the time she came with pages from Majul’s biography of Mabini and Agoncillo’s work on the Malolos Republic.  The Malolos Congress will be Act Two, and she needed lines to give to the dancers to speak; so, could I pick out passages from the books and translate or adapt appropriate ones for their use?  And for Aguinaldo, too? The biographies by Saulo and Majul, and the books by Agoncillo and de la Costa, among others, came very handy,” he said. – Rappler.com
