Revel in the frost and sparkle of winter at this photography exhibit

MANILA,Philippines – Winter casts a magical blanket that envelopes cities or countries, creating often still and captivating scenes. Its allure entices people to journey to different countries to witness and immerse in its cold yet colorful environment. Each place celebrates this season differently, offering a glimpse on the diversity and uniqueness of cultures and traditions.

“Winter Wonderland” is a beautiful showcase on the experience with snow and ice, as well as the vibrant life around it. On display at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay until the end of Febuary 2018, it includes the works of Maria Carmen Benitez, Jorge Buenaventura, Gino Garbanzos, Paul San Pedro, Patrick Uy, Evelyn Uy, Chris Uy, Philip Clayton Yu, and Fred Yuson. These striking views will compel you to step out and appreciate scenarios that are quite foreign to our country.

Among those who are featured in the exhibit is Patrick Uy – one of the country’s most prominent photographers. He is a former president of the Advertising Photographers of the Philippines and the Camera Club of the Philippines. Interpreting his fervent passion for travel, culture, and artistry, he showcases incredible images shot in Japan, Switzerland, and Bhutan.

I caught up with the incredibly busy photographer to chat about the images he shares in this exhibit. “This is second best to armchair travel!” Patrick enthuses. “Many Filipinos have visited Kyoto or Hokkaido but usually during summer. These cityscapes and landscapes with the element of snow are unique to us. The exhibit gives a feel of that season with these images. Cold temperatures turn some people off, but this exhibit will show you that there is so much beauty in nature even during winter.”

Patrick says that it was during a meeting where the idea of the theme came up. “Thinking about my Hokkaido, Japan trips, I said, ‘Why not?’ Upon inspection of the hallway, I realized I needed a number of winter images to complete the exhibit. Luckily, my friends at the Camera Club of the Philippines are also travel enthusiasts, having been traveled to Iceland, Norway, Greenland, Harbin in China, Nagano in Japan, and Russia during winter. With all these, the collection was completed. – Rappler.com
