The affordable art fair will showcase work from 53 exhibitors

Art in the Park is going online in 2020, after previously being postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic. The affordable art fair is set to run from August 10 to 17 on the Art in the Park website.

The fair will showcase artwork from 53 exhibitors, which include galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups. Prices of the works are capped at P50,000, with many pieces available for much less.

As it has done since 2006, a portion of the sales from this online edition will be donated to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines and their projects and programs for the National Museum and its network.

As part of Art in the Park’s partnership with Globe, this year’s fair will include a special exhibit in, Isometric Ay! lah, lah, land…, which features the quirky work of Richard Quebral. A collection by Reena Gabriel will also be available especially for Globe Platinum members.

The fair will also feature a series of videos that allow virtual fair-goers to glimpse Richard’s process. A live auction of one of his paintings – the largest of the 5 he made especially for the fair – will be held on August 16. There will also be a lottery for smaller paintings and prints by the artist. Registration details for the auction and lottery will be announced on Art in the Park’s social media pages.

Another section of the fair, a collaboration with BPI, features a virtual demonstration of artist Jackie Lozano’s method of portraiture. Also on the lineup is an original performance by Fifth Wall Fest, a group that promotes dance films as an art form.

Other special exhibits at the virtual fair include Garapata Hatchery by Dex Fernandez, who will be creating a paper mural sectioned into 22 separate artworks that will be on offer at the fair. Visitors will be able to view his process through a specially-produced time-lapse video.

Illustrator Robert Alejandro will also be conducting live online sessions on Art in the Park’s social media accounts.
