Catch exhibits by photographers, including Filipino photographer Albert Garcia, at Born in Film’s display at the Ortigas Art Festival beginning February 24.

The exhibit, the biggest booth in the annual festival, is composed of 3 sections. The first features photos from several photographers, including Rappler’s own Franz Lopez.

Lopez, one of Rappler’s videographers and production specialists, will be showcasing travel photos from trips to Europe and Asia in Shifting Perspectives.

Bhong Odal will also be showcasing travel photos in Trekking of Colors, while Maritess Ortigas will be showcasing photos of sunsets in The Greatest Show On Earth. Sister Jenny Yasa, the group’s Visual Storyteller of the Year, will be showcasing images taken from inside a convent in Bless in Silent Bliss.

The following photographers will also be showcasing their work – Jes Abella (Luzon), Lester Montejo (Visayas), Rambert Barbaso (Mindanao), Tran Hong Nhung (Vietnam), Brian Azcueta (Japan), Dice Sales (New Zealand), Leo Teopengco (Europe), Mario De Leon (Canada), Scott Davis (USA), and Luiz Barbosa (Brazil).

Albert Garcia, whose iconic shot of the Pinatubo eruption won the World Press Photo in 1991, will also be displaying his work.

The third stations of the display features installation art from the 11,000-strong group’s members around the world. Following the theme “The Beauty of Everyday,” thousands of photographers – both professional and amateur – sent in their work across different mediums and genres.

Lopez himself will also display several photography-related memorabilia and vintage cameras during the exhibit’s opening on February 24. One of the cameras is the same type that was used to document the Lunar Landing of 1969, and a lense that was onboard a B17 Bomber during World War Two. The lense, according to Lopez, is the same one that Russel Gackenbach used to document the bombing of Hiroshima. He’ll also be bringing other rare items that are part of his extensive camera collection.

The Ortigas Art Festival is hosted on the ground floor of the East Wing of Estancia Mall at Capitol Commons on Pasig City. The exhibit, curated by Renato Habulan, is now on its third year. Aside from Born in Film’s booth, the festival will feature the work of artists from all over the world.

Admission is free but those who want to visit must observe the usual health and safety protocols – Estancia requires visitors to wear face masks and shields on top of maintaining physical distancing at all times.

Mall-goers’ body temperatures are checked before entry. Since Estancia is in Pasig City, it’s best for visitors to pre-register for the Pasig Pass – the QR code required before entry into all establishments in the city. – Rappler.com
