The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) announced on Thursday, July 30 that they are opening nominations for a new set of National Artists.
In a statement, the NCCA and CCP said that a nominee should be only be nominated in one category, where an artist made his or her “most substantial contribution.” Other merits can be added to the artist’s citation.
The categories open for nominations are:
- Architecture and allied arts
- Film and Broadcast
- Visual Arts
The deadline for nominations is on December 15, 2020. The guidelines and application form can be downloaded on the NCCA website.
The Order of National Artists is administered by the NCCA and CCP and conferred by the Office of the President. It is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine Arts.
In 2018, 7 artists in their respective fields were named National Artists by President Rodrigo Duterte. Among those awarded include Kidlat Tahimik for film, Ryan Cayabyab for Music, and Larry Alcala for visual arts. – Rappler.com
