In early August, vlogger Nuseir Yassin found himself viral for all the wrong reasons. His online learning platform, Nas Academy, was criticized after it posted a purported online course featuring Apo Whang-Od, a traditional tattoo artist of the Butbut Tribe of Kalinga.

Whang-Od’s grandniece, Grace Palicas, called the course a “scam.” Nas Academy, even after it took down the course, insisted they had gotten consent, showing a video of Whang-Od affixing her thumbprint onto a contract.
