7 beauty tips from Kris Aquino
See a professional about your brows, 'because kung maganda yung kilay ninyo, maganda na kayo'

MANILA, Philippines – After decades in showbiz, Kris Aquino isn’t shy about sharing her makeup and beauty tips with her fans on social media and IRL. (READ: 6 life lessons Kris Aquino learned from her late mom Cory)

She spoke about finding the right products for sensitive skin at her contract signing with Ever Bilena, and of course, where she thinks “beauty begins.” (READ: A makeup kit by Kris Aquino is in the works!)

1. Swatch products on your neck.

For sensitive skin, Kris says it’s important to swatch products before using them on your face. “Ang sinasabi nila (What they say) is the neck is the most sensitive area, so if you test it in your neck and you don’t react, then more than likely it will agree with your entire face.”

2. Hoard!

“When you’ve found something that hiyang ka na (agrees with you), don’t be afraid to hoard,” advised the Queen of All Media. That way, when your favorite formula or lipstick shade gets discontinued, you’ll still be stocked up for at least the next couple of years. According to InStyle, an unopened skin, hair, or body product’s shelf-life is 2 to 3 years – so hoard away!

3. Learn how to do your eyebrows.

There are tons of tutorials and videos on how to find the right eyebrow shape for you, but Kris recommends seeking the advice of a professional when it comes to getting your brows right: “Because kung maganda ‘yung kilay ninyo, maganda na kayo.” (Because when your eyebrows look good, you look good.)

It was a full day w/ my new @everbilenaofficial family. Thank you Boss @dioceldosy, Denise, the rest of your daughters & family for making me feel so appreciated. Thank you @thesmstore in @smsupermalls SM City East Ortigas for accommodating our webisode shoot. Thanks Laine for being so comfortable on camera. I tried several eyeshadows, showed how i do my own kilay (because #kilayislife) & swatched & tried many of the Matte lipsticks & the liquid lippies. I asked them to choose- if Serena w/c is a pinkish nude or Red Carpet combined w/ Thalia w/c together come across as my favorite type of bright red was better. #Albert part of SM’s Security team made my day- he chose the bright red because in his words: sexy po, ma’am… he’s happily married to Nica. I was thrilled because i get complimented by a lot of women & gays as being pretty, but it is super rare for a straight man to actually say my makeup looked sexy. Sa tuwa ko i bought 20 sets of Red Carpet+Thalia & gave Albert to bring home to Nica & gave 19 other women the 2 lippies so that we can all feel sexy in time for Valentine’s. @everbilenaofficial #wherebeautybegins (missed you Shayne! Thanks @shutterin, see you again tomorrow for our shoot w/ Ms. Lee for P&G )

4. Stay positive.

Beauty, said Kris, “comes from not engaging in negativity.” It’s a belief she’s tried to live by, as we see on social media when she doesn’t respond to her haters (unless, of course, they hit out against her kids). “Every time that someone tries to bring me down or someone tries to throw rocks at me, it seems that heaven strengthens my wings. I believe in that. I think beauty really comes from making others feel good about themselves,” she said.

5. Take care of your skin.

Stay away from the sun and drink plenty of water. “Your skin is really important. I think aging gracefully is also very important. ‘Yung parang kailangan age-appropriate, pero ‘wag mo naman pabayaan na maging kulubot ka kung pwede naman na hindi. (You should be age-appropriate, but don’t let your skin get wrinkled if you can help it.)”

To preserve her skin, Kris avoids the sun – especially when it’s at its strongest (10 am to 2 pm) – and she drinks 5 liters of water a day.

6. Accept your flaws

“I think also that beauty also comes from appreciating your faults,” said Kris. If you know what your flaws are, then you should accept that it’s part of who you are, she added. “But it’s also highlighting what you know is good about you. I acknowledge na parang there’s so many more women who are so much more beautiful than me. Pero kung labanan ng kutis, wala talaga akong pores,” she quipped. (But when it’s a complexion competition, I really don’t have pores.) – Rappler.com
