WATCH: How a beauty education program helped two women turn their lives around

MANILA, Philippines – Xavrina Traya has always been into beauty, teaching herself about hair and makeup on her own even as she worked as a therapist at a salon. When the opportunity came for Xavrina to learn more, she grabbed it immediately, even if it meant balancing her job with classes, all while raising her kids.

Unlike Xavrina, Mary Rose wasn’t particularly interested in beauty – until her sister dragged her to the beauty education program that would change her life. There, Mary Rose discovered new challenges and a new set of skills to learn – something she appreciated as a college student.

Xavrina and Mary Rose are just two of the many women who have gone through the Beauty for a Better Life program, an initiative by L’Oreal Philippines that trains women from low-income communities in hairdressing and cosmetic services, giving them more opportunities for livelihood.
