MANILA, Philippines – Television lovers who have fond memories of watching shows like “Saved by the Bell” and “Knight Rider” have a nostalgia blast to look forward to this year. A number of popular television shows from the ’80s and ’90s are coming back as digital comics.

NBC Universal announced a team-up with digital comics makers Lion Forge Comics to create licensed comic books based on a number of classic properties. Lion Forge Comics will handle writing, development, and publishing of digital comics based on “Airwolf,” “Knight Rider,” “Miami Vice,” “Punky Brewster” and “Saved by the Bell.”

Writers signed on to develop these titles include Joelle Sellner (“Teen Titans,” “Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi”), Jonathan London (“Geekscape”), Geoffrey Thorne (“Leverage,” “Ben 10”) and David Gorden (“Catalyst Prime: Accel” and “Catalyst Prime: Quincredible”).

Jason Johnson (“Godstorm”) and Lion Forge’s Carl Reed and Lorenzo Lizana are currently doing art for the projects.

The comics are planned for release later this year on Amazon’s Kindle Bookstore, Apple’s iBooks, Barnes and Noble’s Nook store and Kobo. – Rappler.com
