Job-hopping: Good or bad for your career?
Many employers frown upon it, but sometimes it feels necessary to leave a company you've just joined when it isn't working out. How do you manage this? Join our Twitter convo to share your best advice on this topic

MANILA, Philippines – When a job doesn’t really suit you, when you feel your skills are no longer being developed, or when there’s just no room to grow, leaving a job can be a solid and sensible decision.

But many employers have complained about the tendency of some to “job-hop” – quit and move from one post to another more often than usual, sometimes just as they’re beginning to adjust to the job.

In fact, a 2015 Jobstreet survey lists it as one of the top issues employers have about hiring fresh grads. Companies spend thousands training and “on-boarding” an employee (helping him adjust, supplying him with tools, training sessions, et cetera). When someone quits, that all goes out the window – and expenses are incurred to train a replacement.

So is it a rite of passage, something many go through to find the job that fits them best?

Is job-hopping good or bad for your career?

There doesn’t seem to be an easy answer. It depends on your perspective.

So, let’s talk about it. When is it really the right time to leave a job? Should you be thinking about what the employer thinks, and how do you leave gracefully? How do you know if you should grit your teeth and stick it out?

Tell us your experiences, share your stories and the best career advice you’ve ever gotten in our upcoming career conversation, Thursday evening, August 25. – Rappler.com
