MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines is known for its prominent alumni in the fields of science, law and politics, boasting numerous Philippine presidents, National Artists and National Scientists.
Did you know that some big names in Philippine fashion come from the state university, too? Graduates of the University’s Clothing Technology program under the College of Home Economics have made waves in the fashion industry. Designer Jojie Lloren, known for his excellent pattern-making skills, and Veluz Puno-Reyes, famous wedding gown designer, are just a couple of them.
This 2013, seniors taking the same program hope to make their mark in the industry, too. And what better way to launch their future careers than with a fashion show showcasing the pieces they designed, draped, patterned, cut and sewed themselves?
The show titled “Epitome” was held last October 19 at the GT-Toyota Auditorium in the UP Diliman campus. It featured the designs of 16 students:
- Madey Dela Cruz
- Maylee Co
- Jason Jimenez
- Gelo Salanga
- Pau Sebastian
- Sue Cohamco
- Leonard Sanjonco
- Sarah Oxales
- Claire Pacudan
- Erica Cutiongco
- Nicol Aliasas
- Laya Canlas
- Cris Roxas
- Kaira Dimatulac
- Aien Lemence
- Kat Regalado
From Claire Pacudan’s Stepford wife-inspired collection with its ladylike silhouettes, Kaira Dimatulac’s tough streetwear, to Kat Regalado’s intricate optical illusion dresses, the show gave us a glimpse of what to expect from this year’s graduating batch once they venture into the wide world of fashion.
Check out some of their pieces from the show and let us know what you think!
