Cocktails with world-renowned mixologist, Shingo Gokan
The renowned mixologist shares the tricks of the trade

MANILA, Philippines – The “Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition” has continued to pave the way for innovative mixologists worldwide to pursue their passion. Rewards have always been unique and are focused on enhancing their skills, further elevating their career. This opens an opportunity to learn through travels and experiences.

In the Philippines, Bacardi has been accepting registrations for those interested to compete in the next “Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition”.

On its 9th year, this highly regarded arena of mixologists has garnered much attention as it has produced notable winners from Tom Walker of the American Bar at the Savoy in London, Franck Didieu of the Red Wood Bar in Lyon, France, to New York-based Shingo Gokan who founded Speak Low in Shanghai.

Shingo was hailed as the “International Bartender of the Year” at the “11th Annual Spirited Awards” by Tales of the Cocktail. Since his win in 2012, he has been one of the most sought-after Bacardi ambassadors in the world.

Recently, Shingo was in Manila for a masterclass held at Raging Bull Chophouse and Bar, Shangri-la at the Fort. Three delectable cocktails were concocted, highlighting his expertise in creating one of a kind drinks using Bacardi 8 as the base. Balancing tastes, the cocktail choices were either the dark coffee infused “Roasted; the sweet mango and olive combination of “Aged”; and the clean tasting ginger and passion fruit cocktail “Spiced”.

Mitchum Lim, Global Brand Ambassador of Bacardi, introduced the “ocho shot.” Guests were given a shot glass filled with pure Bacardi 8. After counting from 1 to 7, everyone had to shout “ocho” before taking a full shot.

With registration for the international competition ongoing, it is everyone’s hope that a Filipino mixologist would make it as well in the global stage.

Registration for “The Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition” ends on September 30, 2017. For more information on the competition, email ncruz@bacardi.com. – Rappler.com
