MANILA, Philippines – When it comes to drinking sessions, most people turn to buckets of beer, bottles of wine, or, for the heartbroken, shots of something especially strong. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s always nice to try something new.

Here are 4 cocktail recipes you can try the next time you and your friends get together for a buzz. These recipes – by bartenders from some of the best bars across the country – recently won the first Don Papa Rum cocktail competition in the Philippines, so aside from getting you sufficiently buzzed, they’re also delicious!

La Fuerza by Kathrin Osmillo of Oto

1 1/2 oz of Don Papa Rum
1 oz kamias juice
3/4 oz strawberry-cinnamon puree
Honey, cinnamon powder, and cinnamon stick (for garnish)

Combine Don Papa, strawberry-cinnamon puree and kamias juice in a shaker. Shake all the ingredients and strain. Garnish with honey-cinnamon rim and cinnamon stick. Burn the end of cinnamon stick before serving.

Corazon by John Robert Lorenzo of Samba at Shangri-la The Fort

45 ml of Don Papa Rum
10 ml orgeat syrup
7.5 ml grapefruit juice
5 ml campari
15 ml homemade piña shrub
30 ml toasted coconut cream

Mix all ingredients together, add ice, shake well and serve. 

Road Less Traveled by Abigael Quilal-lan of ABV

1 1/2 oz Don Papa Rum
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz homemade passion fruit syrup
1/2 oz banana liqueur
1 barspoon of Brauilo
2 dashes chocolate bitters
served in an ice block

In a shaker, combine Don Papa Rum infused with coconut butter. Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake and double strain into a rocks glass with an ice block. Smoke with Cinnamon chips. Garnish with dehydrated banana and desiccated coconut.

Audaz Filipinos by Maxniel Seruelo of Prisma Boracay

1 1/2 oz Don Papa Rum
1/2 oz fresh guava uice
3/4 oz fresh pineapple juice
4 pcs pineapple chunks
3/4 oz coconut water
1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
5 dashes angostura bitters

Muddle pineapple chunks. Combine all the ingredients. Add ice and shake well. Double strain. Pour in glass and serve.
