If you’re a fan of crème brûlée and chiffon cake, check out local bakery Gourmet Cravings’ homemade tarta catalana, a crème brûlée-inspired dessert that combines the fluffiness of chiffon with the creaminess of crème brûlée.

Gourmet Cravings’ newest treat is a personal spin on the crema catalana, a sweet Spanish cake made with milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks. The tarta catalana features fluffy, soft butter chiffon cake that’s moist and airy, layered with a generous amount of light vanilla creme chantilly and topped with a creamy, sweet crème brûlée mixture that’s lightly torched.

You can really taste the richness of the cream and egg yolks in the crème brûlée topping, and the sweet brown sugar syrup really seeps through the layers of cake. Overall, the cake is indulgent in taste but light and creamy in texture; however, the crème brûlée’s sugar topping could have been torched more for added crunch.

Gourmet Cravings’ tarta catalana is available in a 4 x 6 x 2 acrylic box (good for one-two people) for P390, in whole round 7 x 4 size for P800, or in whole round 9 x 4 size for P1,050.
