Gourmet Cravings’ newest treat is a personal spin on the crema catalana, a sweet Spanish cake made with milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks. The tarta catalana features fluffy, soft butter chiffon cake that’s moist and airy, layered with a generous amount of light vanilla creme chantilly and topped with a creamy, sweet crème brûlée mixture that’s lightly torched.
You can really taste the richness of the cream and egg yolks in the crème brûlée topping, and the sweet brown sugar syrup really seeps through the layers of cake. Overall, the cake is indulgent in taste but light and creamy in texture; however, the crème brûlée’s sugar topping could have been torched more for added crunch.
