Flan-tastic! This leche flan dayap cake is a tangy treat

DAYAP. Butternut MNL's newest cake features the local citrus fruit.

It's a tarty party! Butternut MNL's newest chiffon cake features the local citrus fruit and creamy leche flan on top.

Where my tarty people at? If you’re a fan of the sour native dayap fruit (also known as key lime), then you’re in for a tangy, creamy treat with Butternut MNL’s latest dessert: the La Leche Flan Cake.

It’s a flan-tastic combination of vanilla, citrus, and caramel flavors that come from the airy chiffon cake, dayap curd and creme, and homemade leche flan, respectively.

Butternut MNL’s delicately light, soft vanilla chiffon cake is layered with a creamy dayap curd and dayap chantilly creme in between – both perfectly tart and citrusy. The tanginess is complemented by the caramel-y leche flan sitting atop, which is rich but not too sweet. The creamy, silky, and thick housemade leche flan is already a winner on its own, but paired with rest of the cake? It takes the cake!

It’s a generous, indulgent, but still light dessert that doesn’t scrimp on ingredients or flavors. You’ll really taste the bright dayap in every bite, as well as the sweet leche flan. As a plus, the cake is also as eye-catching as it is delicious – it’s topped with candied dayap slices, freshly-grated dayap zest, and edible gold flakes.

Butternut MNL’s seasonal cake is available at P1,850 and is good for six-eight people. The local bakery is open for pre-orders starting November 2 to 30, 2021 on Butternut’s website, with a three-day lead time.

Customers can have the cake delivered or pick it up themselves from Butternut’s five branches in SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM North EDSA, Alabang West Parade, and Makati City.

Butternut MNL also has other notable cakes to try out – they launched a seasonal Guimaras mango cake in May and a five-layer ube brazo cake in January. –
