If there’s one treat you can’t just eat one of, it might be the light, airy cream puff or profiterole – cute balls of baked French choux pastry enveloping a silky filling of either vanilla or flavored whipped cream, pastry cream, custard, or a mix of all.
The choux pastry is then usually topped with powdered sugar, chocolate ganache, cracked sugar, or a hardened caramel topping, made to be devoured in just one to two bites. They’re desserts fairly on the lighter side, baked until crisp, buttery, and oozing with that subtly sweet custard.
Craving for a box (or more)? Here’s where you can get freshly-baked, homemade cream puffs in different flavors from local bakeries around Metro Manila.
The Sweet Factory
Marikina-based home bakery The Sweet Factory sells their cream puffs two ways – one topped with hardened caramel, and the other with chocolate ganache. You can get both in boxes of 6, 12, or 16 for P140, P270, and P370 (caramel), and P180, P350, and P465 (chocolate).
Want the best of both worlds? You can get them mixed for P160, P310, and P420. Just make sure to regularly check The Sweet Factory’s Facebook page to order when slots are open. You can also text them at 09178254529.
Pantri
What about “crack buns?” A slightly different take on the cream puff, Pantri serves theirs cracked and buttery – baked choux pastry covered in craquelin (a thin cookie crust), enveloping a generous amount of chantilly cream (whipped cream folded into pastry cream), made with real vanilla beans.
These homemade goodies cost P300 for a box of 6. You can place your orders via Instagram.
Creampuffsmnl
You might have a problem choosing from Makati-based home bakery Creampuffsmnl’s menu – their wide variety of flavors include the classic cream puff with vanilla custard or salted caramel filling, sold in boxes of 6 or 12 for P185 or P365, respectively.
You can also get those two flavors with a caramelized sugar topper for P210 or P415. For their premium flavors, there’s the Boston Cream Puff (P220, P425), vanilla custard topped with dark chocolate, the Strawberry Cream Puff (P230, P430) with white chocolate, and the Matcha (P250, P450) topped with white chocolate, too.
Sugar-free options await as well – you can get the vanilla or the special Coffee Cream Puff variant of salted caramel, dark chocolate, chocolate powder, and roasted coffee bits for P485 a box of 12.
You can place your orders via Creampuffsmnl’s Instagram page.
