MUSUBI. This Quezon City shop makes vegan versions of the snack.

The vegan version of the snack uses Omnipork's plant-based luncheon meat and comes in spicy, original, and kimchi flavors

If there was a way to enjoy your favorite SPAM musubi – sans the pork – would you try it? Quezon City home business Musubi Rush gives vegetarians and vegans that tasty option.

Musubi Rush, known for their SPAM musubi variants, recently launched a vegan musubi series, featuring Omnipork’s plant-based luncheon meat. (READ: Plant-based luncheon meat now in PH)

The musubi is similarly built like the snack – sticky, moist rice tightly packed inside a nori sheet – served with additional sauces, toppings, and Omnipork’s savory, meat-free substitute (it’s just not as firm as the original luncheon meat).

Musubi Rush’s original flavor (P75) includes a homemade, sweet-salty soy dressing on top of the rice, while the spicy variant (P75) uses a tasty gochujang sauce.

For something more filling, try their kimchi flavor (P125), which also includes a lettuce leaf, a dairy-free cheese slice (it doesn’t add much creaminess but it does add a slight saltiness), and crunchy, fresh kimchi that’s tangy and spicy.

One piece is already quite filling, but feel free to get all 3 variants as one vegan musubi set for P275.

Musubi Rush also offers plant-based versions of their packed onigirazu (sushi sandwich) in the same flavors for P220. All 3 cost P649.

Customers can pre-order from Musubi Rush via SMS at 09171725523 or via Instagram. There’s a one-day lead time for orders. – Rappler.com
