Craving your usual merienda favorites from home? Thankfully, there’s no need to head outside, because local canteen Hangry Pals can deliver street food classics like kwek-kwek, squid balls, kikiam, and more to your homes.

The family-owned carinderia has been situated in Mandaluyong City for 13 years now, but only recently shifted to online selling and deliveries since the lockdown hit. This move was initiated by family member Neil Medina, an overseas Filipino worker currently stuck in the Philippines with no work and no pay.

Hangry Pals’ best-selling, home-cooked merienda classics taste familiar, comforting, are affordable, but still of high quality. Although the fried items aren’t as crunchy as they would be fresh off the pan, their kwek-kwek is still generously breaded and perfect with Hangry Pals’ own white vinegar mix, which has chopped white onions and a bit of heat from the sili. They cost P50 for 10 pieces.

Their squid balls are also firm, chewy, and sized just right, paired best with Hangry Pals’ own tangy-sweet, brown, fish ball sauce. They cost P50 for 12 pieces. They also have kikiam at P50 for 15 small pieces.

If you want something more filling (and even good enough for dinner), go for their hefty, crispy, and tasty lumpiang gulay, stuffed with the works – togue, carrots, beans, potatoes – best dipped in their suka. They cost P50 for 5 medium-sized pieces.

They also have lumpiang sariwa for P50 with a peanut dipping sauce.

If you’re hankering for something sweet, Hangry Pals also has the classic and soft puto pao (with salted egg) at P80 for 6 pieces, and dense ube puto leche with a light custard flan on top at P70 for 8 pieces.
