Mercury retrograde is almost here, and we’re pretty sure we all know one or two people who are “afraid” of it. But what really is this phenomenon?

In this episode, resident astro girl Cesd puts it in layman’s terms:

• Astrologically, retrogrades happen when the planets appear to go backwards in their orbit and we feel the effects of that shift.
• Scientifically, retrogrades are just an illusion but that doesn’t mean that they have no significance astrologically.

They may be a hassle for the most part, but retrogrades tell us to take a step back, pause, and reflect. They’re road bumps in the highway that is life – and like all road bumps, they contribute to growth.
