MANILA, Philippines – Will the second time be the charm for Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2015 Christi Lynn McGarry?
“This is my second time to compete for Miss Intercontinental. So ang feeling ko (my feeling is), I just need to be confident this time around, do my best, be confident and bring home the crown – the first Miss Intercontinental crown to the Philippines,” Christi told the press on November 26 during the send-off for her and Miss Universe Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
Christi, 25, is competing for the title in Magdeburg, Germany, on December 18 (December 19 Manila time). She previously competed in 2010, when she won Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific. She is the second Binibini to vie for the title. In 2014, Kris Tiffany Janson placed 2nd runner-up.
When asked what sets her apart from the other candidates, Christi said that she doesn’t only have the height, but also the experience as a well-traveled individual.
“I really want to be able to represent the Filipino beauty. But above that, I’m very well-traveled and this is my second time around so I have a lot more experience than the other girls so I hope it works to my advantage.”
Since she and Pia had a double send-off, Christi said she is aware of the pressure on her and Pia to win. Pia is currently in Las Vegas, competing in the Miss Universe pageant.
“Of course, we know we are all rooting for Pia. I’m not trying to take away the limelight but I just hope I can be one of her biggest support systems. Pia and I are very close and we both feel a lot of pressure. I know she feels 10 times more [pressure] than I do. So all I can do is be her biggest support system,” Christi said.
Christi said that has learned to relax from all the training she went through.
“I think the biggest tip or advice to give to myself is to relax. We made it this far. The first half is Bb Pilipinas ‘di ba (is it not), so the next goal is to bring home the international title back to the Philippines. Despite the pressure, I know I’ll do my best and I’m confident enough this time.”
Christi said that unlike the first time she competed in 2010, she is vying for the title with more preparation and training this time around.
“The first time around, I was a girl. I didn’t have any proper training….This time, I have a lot of preparation, a lot of training, so I’ll be polished every time I step out of my room as if it were competition night, and that’s the goal. My walk has improved 150%. I think that would be one of my strongest points,” she said.
Now that she’ll be enjoying her stay in Germany, Christi said that aside from the training, one should possess inner beauty.
“You need to feel good from the inside because once you feel good inside, it really, really shows despite the external things you can add or do to your body. If you really feel strong inside, I think you’ll present yourself as beautiful.” – Rappler.com
